The breakup techniques (Kyukpa) are one of the most spectacular aspects of the Taekwon-Do, where the student expresses his strength breaking wood tablets or bricks with the naked hands or bare feet. These techniques underline the perfect control and the power reached in the practice of art, in fact they are asked to obtain the black belt.

It’s not simple, above all for beginners, appraise the execution of similar techniques. The breakup of a tablet is in reality the less important aspect. Among the physical factors that the athlete must consider there is the correct calculation of distance, the precision, the speed in the movement and the breathing. The execution request concentration, decision and equilibrium.

The fundamental purpose of these techniques not measure the strength of the athlete instead the perfect psycho-physics integration. For this reason these techniques have a secondary place in Taekwon-Do, in fact primarily they are an useful indication to verify the development of power and ability to concentrate the strength in a precise point of the space (Ki); a point that the taekwondoka focuses over the target, considered which an hinder to overcome.

Usually, during the black belt examinations for I Dan, are used tablets of pinewood 30 x 30 cms., with thickness of 1.8 - 2.0 cms. In other cases, for example during the demonstrations, above all to perform double or triple spectacular techniques in sequence, thinner tablets are used, that require less power to parity of precision. The training to the breakup techniques begins from the II or I Kup, in preparation to the I Dan examination.
